Remarques

This EP is a compilation of previously released material.
This EP has the same cover art as Cook 1042, "Brute Force Steel Bands of Antigua, BWI"
The Cook 1042 cover is in full color printed on a white background; this is a simple black on yellow and white.
Nowhere on the record does it actually say these are recorded in Trinidad. Instead, the subtitle is "Recorded in the Caribbean for Alcoa Steamship Company".
QUALITY CAUTION : The tracks on this EP have been recorded at high speed, probably to make them fit, but making the singers, particularly the Duke of Iron, sound more like Chipmunks than crooners. There are remasters of most of these tracks available, and they sound much better than this promotional pressing.
A1 "Paran-Pan-Pan" is credited to Lisa Lekis, but it is not in her published discography
A2 "If I Lie, I Die" - Brute Force Steel Band of Antigua; recorded by Lisa Lekis; originally released as track 5 on promotional 12" LP, "Caribbean Festival : Music of the West Indes"; published by the Puerto Rico Visitors Bureau
B1 "Creole Girl" - The Duke of Iron; originally released as B2 on Monogram 842, "Calypso Carnival"
B2 "Loving Woman Is A Waste of Time" - The Duke of Iron and his Trinidad Calypso Troubadors; originally released as the A side on Monogram 851; 10" 78 RPM

I was looking for more of Calypso Mama, the 30s vintage songs and less of the group. I want a collection of the specific artist and cannot find one. Various Artists. Nothing evokes the Caribbean sun like the sound of a steel band, and this is wall-to-wall steel pans. The liner notes offer a brief history of rhythm in the Trinidad carnival - where this was recorded in 1967 - but unfortunately nothing on the pieces of music themselves. So it's hard to tell if they're more traditional or individual recent compositions. The recording on this is somewhat muddy compared to other steel pan recordings, but it does capture the joy of the music. Not absolutely essential - but still a lot of fun. 42 tracks 130:38
