The album isnt totally sans blues-there are raw, righteous covers of Tampa Reds I Aint for It and Lightnin Hopkins Katie Mae -but rawboned rockers dominate. There are also a couple of compellingly contemplative tunes co-penned by fellow Bronx boy Scott Kempner of DictatorsDel Lords fame, including the dreamy-but-streetwise title track, where Dions joined by another august New Yorker: Paul Simon. New York Is My Home Dion. Songs in album Dion - New York Is My Home 2016. Dion - Aces Up Your Sleeve. Dion - Can't Go Back To Memphis. Dion - New York Is My Home Feat. Paul Simon. Dion was 76 years old when he recorded the album New York Is My Home, but it doesn't sound like the work of an elderly man or an exercise in nostalgia. At heart, Dion has always been a guy who sang the blues, and for the most part that's what he does on New York Is My Home. The bulk of this material is strongly rooted in blues and R&B, and if Dion's voice doesn't soar as high as it once did, his instrument is in admirably fine condition, smooth and rich, and his sense of phrasing is superb. Dions most recent album. New York Is My Home is made up of a mix of covers and original productions. The title song was written by Dion out of his love for the city in which he was born and raised. New York Is My Home Q&A. Primary Artists Dion & Paul Simon. Featuring Dion. Writers Dion, Hudson Whittaker, Lightnin Hopkins & 3 more. More Dion albums. In February 2016, Dion, one of the great original rockers, will release a new album called New York Is My Home. For the title track, the doo-wop legend called in another fellow native New Yorker with an ear for harmony, Paul Simon. The sparse song, the video of which can be viewed above, finds Dion celebrating the city, finding beauty even on rainy days and equating the noisy streets with gospel music. Simon comes in at the end of the first verse and stays throughout. He even takes the lead on the last two verses. Dalarin
Growing up in Philadelphia, with the Jersey shore just around one corner, New York City around another, and more AM radio stations than you could count, pretty much means that I’ve spent my entire life with Dion. And while his early material had a dynamic beat, and was super cool for dancing to on American Bandstand, as I grew older, there wasn’t much honesty, or anything profound to be derived in those 45 record grooves.

And then came a new century, and with it, came new Dion, a more bluesy, more rootsy Dion, one who’s songs came from the heart, who’s songs where part of a more real and inclusive American landscape. It seemed that when he laid out a new version of “Turn Me Loose” for the Till The Night Be Gone: A Tribute To Doc Pomus that something in him was awakened, then followed King Of New York, along with New Masters, a collection or his reworked classics, the smoldering Bronx In Blue, his brilliant Son Of Skip James[which I can not praise enough], the infectious Tank Full Of Blues, and here with New York Is My Home, Dion has delivered a new collection of material that is not only first rate, but undeniably so. All of this has caused me to dig out my dusty 45s to see if I could filter out an essence hidden there, to make the connection with what once was, and what has since been flowing from my stereo ... and with a mile wide smile sliding across my face, I discovered that I could, that the real Dion was hidden between those grooves, just waiting for the right time, and perhaps the right audience, to lay waste to the world yet again.

There are no pretenses to be found on New York Is My Home, just sensationally rendered material laced with bluesy hooks, lyrics that relay time honored stories, and visionary instrumentation that draws from the past, though creating a profound sound that exists very much in the present, and swaggers with all you’d expect from perhaps the true godfather of rock n’ roll.
