A rare, rare import is this one, pairing two Bill Evans albums of classic flute-and-piano jazz collaborations supported by Chuck Israels on bass and Paul Motian on drums. Evans, the master of understated piano, provides both complementary and contrasting relief, depending on the flutist in the spotlight. Steig is aggressive. The Bill Evans trio stuff with Scott Lafaro is the best Portrait in Jazz, Live at the Village Vanguard, Waltz for Debby, Explorations. Stan Getz & Bill Evans is fantastic. I don't know if this is too obvious but his work on Kind of Blue is why he's famous some of the tracks are Wynton Kelly though. Bill EvansTony Bennett recorded an album together with the same name. It was a crossover hit, but I'm not the biggest fan. If you're looking for Evans' work outside his trios, I highly recommend Blues and the Abstract Truth, an album of blues featuring Evans. He of course played on Kind of Blue excluding Freddie Freeloader, and was also featured as a leader on Interplay. Bill Evans is an album by Paul Motian on the German JMT label. It was released in 1990 and features nine compositions by Motian's former employer Bill Evans performed by Motian with Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano and Marc Johnson.
